1. Furnace Won’t Start

It can be stressful when furnaces don’t kick on immediately when the thermostat is set to “hot.” Homeowners who experience this frequent furnace issue could worry that their unit is malfunctioning or has already passed away.

However, this typical issue doesn’t always spell the end for your furnace or heat pump. Your system may occasionally fail to start due to minor problems. When it’s time to heat the house, your furnace may not turn on.

The cause is probably a lack of electricity for the heating system. Before attempting to restart the system, ensure all power sources connected to your furnace or heat pump are correctly configured. Make a service call for a furnace repair if there are no local blackouts, but your furnace won’t start.

2. Furnace Has Trouble Igniting

When you switch on your heater, the system should start working as soon as the thermostat’s predetermined temperature is achieved. The burners ignite when the thermostat sends the signal to the ignition system, starting the heating process. Your house won’t get the heat it needs if there is a problem with the ignition system.

The problem is probably a broken or malfunctioning ignitor. It is not a DIY project and should be left to an expert to inspect and replace an igniter. HVAC workers use a multimeter to check the electrical conductivity of ignitors and repair broken parts.

3. Low Airflow From Your Vents

Airflow problems may be to blame if your system isn’t heating your home’s rooms sufficiently.

A closed vent register probably causes this. Check the covers to determine whether the louvers are in the “open” position if the airflow from the vents in your household isn’t enough. Start by cleaning the cover or think about replacing it if the louvers are cracked or jammed closed. Most hardware stores have these reasonably priced parts.

4. Adjusting the Thermostat Does Nothing

Your heater or water heater should operate as intended when you turn on the thermostat or raise the indoor temperature. The heating apparatus might not be powered, nevertheless, if your thermostat doesn’t activate the heating system or the temperature never appears to rise to the desired level.

Ensure your breaker hasn’t tripped, and your fuses are in excellent shape. Make sure the “ON” position is selected on the indoor furnace, air handler ON/OFF switches, and outdoor heat pumps.

5. Cool Air is Coming Through the Vents

A blocked gas valve may be why your system is producing chilly air rather than warm air, even if the central heating is on.

Make sure your gas valve is in the proper position by checking it. Shut valves are aligned with the line, whereas open valves are parallel to the pipe. It could be necessary to have the valve professionally changed if it is locked in the off position.
